This beach read dives into overcoming burnout, self-discovery, strained relationships, and power of forgiveness. I was drawn to the premise of this book especially since it involved dogs, but I found myself disappointed with the characters and the romance. Morgan and Nathan's relationship felt more like a summer fling rather than something built to last. The conflict towards the end seemed to wrap up too quickly without much explanation. Although the story was meant to have a happy ending, I struggled to envision a lasting future for Morgan and Nathan. The subplot involving Morgan's estranged brother didn't really capture my interest either. The only parts I truly enjoyed were the discussion about overcoming burnout and the storyline about Hudson, the anxious foster dog, and I wished the focus had been more on that. Overall, I had mixed feelings about this book. It's an okay beach read with a bit of plot if you’re looking a palate cleanser.

Thanks Berkley Publishing for the free book.

I have had the two previous dog related rom coms by this author on my shelf for awhile, but finally decided to read this one close to its release date and I loved it! I can’t wait to read the other two books now. Morgan is a veterinarian who is overwhelmed by her job. She takes a break as a dog sitter on Nantucket and becomes a foster to a reactive dog. She also meets Nathan, an easy going summer fling. I loved that this book is about dogs and friendships as well as a love story. The conflict that occurs between Morgan and Nathan felt real and understandable. It checked all of my boxes as a great rom com read.

Victoria Schade is such a brilliant writer. She handles hard topics with ease and you cheer along with the characters. Each novel of hers get better and you can see where her writing has evolved! Her dog knowledge, being a trainer herself, is amazing- you learn about dogs behavior and tips to train while you read. Hudson was such a good pup in this novel.

This one's a review from my dog :)

Hi book humans! Mr. Moose here. Giving mom a break today...

I may not be able to read, and books scare me a little cause they fall on me sometimes, but I like to come be cute and stick my tongue out when Victoria Schade has a new book out because she writes the best stories about dogs just like me!⁣

This one features a super cool dude named Hudson. He’s a rescue too - so basically the best kinda of pooch in my book. Hudson can do tricks like me, too. It’s the best way to get snacks.⁣

The human Morgan in this book is a vet. I’m not sure I like my vet. He cuts my nails and I don’t like that. But I know vets are there to keep me healthy so mom can have me around a long time - but Morgan is pretty stressed out being vet. Why? I guess because sometimes it’s sad. And hard. And sometimes people get mean because they’re scared their best friends aren’t feeling well. ⁣

So Morgan takes a break, jets off to dreamy Nantucket, and finds Hudson! She finds some other humans, too, but let’s be honest - the dog is always the best part.⁣

I know my mom loved this one. So you should go buy it today. And don’t forget to thank those suspicious humans at the vet office. They sometimes give out snacks, so I guess they’re not all that bad.

An easy read set in Nantucket about a girl who is burnt out and overwhelmed with her work. Would classify this as a beach read, but tackles some deeper issues such as depression, long term effects of bullying, etc.
