I've read this before, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I found it less tangled than [b:Tender is the Night|46164|Tender Is the Night|F. Scott Fitzgerald|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1170314348s/46164.jpg|8272], and wonderfully overlooked, unlike The Great Gatsby. Fitzgerald also plays much more with style in this particular novel, going from portraits to vignettes to stories, to a section that's written as a play. I'm enjoying reading it again.

Infinitely more poignant than [book:The Great Gatsby] even with slight first-novel symptoms. Amory comes alive on every page and, just as vibrantly, Fitzgerald illustrates an entire generation.

Honestly one of the best books i have ever read. I love Fitzgerald’s style and eloquency, how great he is at creating atmosphere. I am sure I will come back to this book, because i feel like i could notice different aspects every read. I wasnt really a big fan of the characters, which is another reason for the high rating- usually books with unlikable characters are not my favourites as they tend to make me a little annoyed. In „This side of Paradise” that didnt happen at all. This book gripped me from the first 5 pages & made me fall in love with Fitzgerald even more. I throughly enjoyed how the action was shown & how he used different literary genres. This books shows how open and talented as a writer he was. After finishing it I couldnt wait to read his other pieces.

"Amory wondered how people could fail to notice that he was a boy marked for glory, and when faces of the throng turned toward him and ambiguous eyes stared into his, he assumed the most romantic of expressions and walked on the air cushions that lie on the asphalts of fourteen. ... It was always the becoming he dreamed of, never the being."
