maybe gatsby is the only fitzgerald book with rights because this was so [big silence]. i think i tuned out after 100 pages and just started skimming because i literally couldn’t care less.

(1.5/5)

Eh, this was ok. There was some good writing but I wasn't wild about all of the poetry, partly because I don't really like poetry. BUT if you are a huge poetry and F. Scott Fitzgerald fan this will do it for you. I didn't really like the main character Amory- I found him extremely pretentious- but the main character keeps insisting that he isn't, but the majority of the book is based upon his introspection and perception of others. If you want phenominal descriptions of people and surroundings without a lot of plot-this book is for you. BUT the good parts of the book were phenominal- the love story between Amory and Rosalind is slightly reminiscent of Gatsby and Daisy in The Great Gatsby. However, I didn't like this book as much as I liked The Great Gatsby or Bernice Bobs Her Hair(short story)

Started off on a good note but ended with long self-indulgent sections. If the purpose of writing the latter portions was to make a noise in the high-brow literary squad of his times, Fitzgerald may have succeeded but to me, it seemed quite archaic and interestingly egotistic.

You can give it a miss and read The Great Gatsby twice.

I really liked the first half of the book, but as I read more, it became kind of boring to me. Good book though! Happy I read it!

"Very few things matter and nothing matters much"

Okay, so I really wanted to like this book. Sadly, I didn't. It just did not have a solid plot. There were moments where I laughed and smiled. There were sentences that made me think. Made me wonder. Gave me a new take on life.

Amory is a very smart and charming character. I loved Eleanor! Her positive vibes were just so contagious and I loved it!

This book was all about its writing style - its magnificent writing style. But I guess I'd have to read a lot more books before I can learn to truly appreciate the beauty of this one. I neither understood nor enjoyed the random poetry in the book.

I definitely would have loved a little more of a plot-based story.

This is my new favourite book. It’s so funny and Fitzgerald captures the naivety of an emerging adult perfectly
