A beautiful and unique novel! I adore Kate Morton's books so much. Though The Forgotten Garden and The Distant Hours are definitely my favorites, this one was up there for me, too.
Kate Morton's writing is so flawless and mesmerizing that it's almost impossible to stop reading once you've started. As usual, the first chapter just takes hold of you and never lets go!
I usually don't "solve" the mystery of her books so early but, this time, I did. I had figured out what would probably happen about 30% in, which was sad. Although, one very important twist in the end of the novel was (thankfully) a surprise, so that was awesome.
The only aspect of the book that I found a little different and not quite as interesting was the addition of Daniel Miller and his third person account of the Turner Family tragedy. Although the inclusion of a book within a book is very fun, I really missed the first person account that you get from the main characters like Polly, Jess, Nora and Isabel.
Overall, I really liked this new Kate Morton book and I will definitely read it again! (Perhaps listen on Audible next time...)

There are some really beautifully written parts but it’s mostly just dead boring
slow-paced
I so nearly DNF’d this after getting about halfway through, but decided to pick it back up again around six months later and i’m actually really glad i did. it’s a beautifully written book with such vivid descriptions, and characters that feel so real. it was definitely hard to get into at first and is a very slow paced book and i think
if i had known that before reading, it would have made for a more enjoyable reading experience as it seemed allergic to getting to the point at times, but overall a beautifully written story and i am so glad i finished it.

This book beautifully weaves together two stories. The closer you get to the end, the harder the book is to put down. The characters are well-developed and intriguing. A gentle reminder that all families have stories - some more complex than others. There were many times as I read that I gasped out loud with the beautifully written plot twists.
