In Memoriam is sensational. Beautifully raw and gripping with the most talented prose and narration I’ve read in a while. It’s intimate, it’s genuine, it’s moving and it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read.
I don’t think I have it in me to write a full review now, but I might be able to later. It’s just an instant classic and I don’t have words.

“The old lie: Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori”
Poignant and beautiful
Gaunt and Ellwood’s love story is beautiful but also heartbreaking.
When we first meet them they are young and carefree but as the story progresses their lives and the world around them becomes scary and turbulent.
The whole way through you are willing both of them to keep safe and return to one another.
When they do they are both changed and traumatised by their experiences of war but their love for one another is still strong
The use of poetry throughout the book makes it all the more poignant tying real life soldiers experiences into those of Gaunt and Ellwoods
The depiction of the front are hard to read at some points but really highlight the reality of the First World War.
