This book had such great potential but it just felt like it was executed poorly. It often lacked a sort of oomf or surprise that I was hoping for from a gothic horror book so it just got boring. Honestly don’t even think you can call it a horror book. I hated how sans went from absolutely loving CHLOE to immediately hating her after simon started loving her. I also hated how CHLOE didn’t really go anywhere. Like she became sentient but didn’t do much she just kind of existed. Disappointed.

I enjoyed it well enough. The narrator of the audio book really did a great job.

I would not categorize this book as horror… more like cozy sci-fi.

It was honestly such a cute/weird little historical fiction! It is written similarly to an old classic novel, and the characters aren’t too deep, and the plot just bumbles along. There are great descriptions of the beautiful plants/scenery. Super easy listen on audiobook. The narrator was relaxing and his voices for the characters made it that much more enjoyable and “historical” feeling.
