I think the plot was great but I just kinda hated the writing and the overall execution of the plot. Part of it may have been that I hated the way the narrator voiced Gregor in the audiobook? There's not a ton of ways to differentiate between voices besides making one of them annoyingly deep, but it really affected my enjoyment. Besides that, the plot and progression of how each of the men viewed Chloe was hard to follow, and a lot of things kinda came out of no where. This is mostly rated low because I expected this to be a 5 star book and I just did not have a fun time with this.

It took me ages to read this because I’m in a bit of a slump so I never really remembered what was going on. I’m definitely going to re-read this again! All I know is I liked the ending

Definitely not a book for everyone, but one that I certainly enjoyed. I had read in the reviews that it was quite graphic, however considering it is a horror I would disagree and say the violent scenes are about par for horror and not egregiously gory.
Spoilers about the end:
I also really appreciated that Jennifer and Constance got to rest together at the heart of the mycelium in the end. It seemed to me with her comment to Chloe shortly before they ran away that she realized it was Constance and the way that realization played out was better than the rage filled one I was expecting.

Definitely a fascinating concept! Only thing that really bothered me at all is how much the characters flip flop so drastically in their opinion constantly and immediately with no in between really.

challenging dark emotional hopeful mysterious sad tense medium-paced

A surprisingly charming and gruesome novel about chosen family in a brutally homophobic society.
