I think if this had leaned even more into the horror aspects, it would have been even better. As it is this I really enjoyed this Gothic botanical horror that's basically Frankenstein but make it gay and mushroomy. The scene between Chloe and Jennifer though - wow...

plant sex has entirely new meaning now, lol

I liked the queering of the gothic and I really liked the premise. I will say that

some of the murders felt a little unexpected and unnecessary?? I feel like the motivations behind them could have been explored better. I also think that Gregor’s sudden change of heart about CHLOE was a bit out of character.

Altogether, a fun read, but I guess it would have been nice to have deeper explorations of some of the character motivations!!

This was an intriguing tale, with much of my time spent wondering where and how it would end as the story progressed. I enjoyed the relationship between

Chole and Jennifer the most and it’s what kept me listening. The only frustrations I have are due to feeling like Gregor and Simon should have faced some consequences for their actions, they murder people after all. I kept waiting for that and nothing happened so it was a bit of a let down.

An incredibly interesting premise and a great set of characters, but I will say, it did feel a bit lackluster at times in terms of plot and by the time I reached the end, I was left wishing a bit MORE had actually happened. Regardless, it was a very enjoyable read, and I do recommend to anyone interested in fun victorian settings with gothic queer characters ♡
