this is one of the most complicated 2 stars i've ever had to give... the plot of this book is delicious but it's a slog to punch through all 500 pages of this, and it would have benefitted from a few more ruthless rounds of edits to streamline the focus and the pace.

The book started off really strong, with the first few days I was heavily engaged trying to figure out what was going on with the main character, but halfway through the story it fell a little flat. There was more tell than show later on and then there were components introduced into the story that weren't explained enough, plot reveals that just didn't come get the limelight deserved. A nice read, with an interesting idea and plot, but a little flat in the story, especially at the end.
