Poorly written, very open ending, after so many pages.
Too much on the relationship of the two main characters and not enough about the mystery and the story.
The sex scenes were cliche, in fact, much of the book was a bunch of cliches, and it was very sexist.

Rating this a generous 3 stars because I like the authors other books and I think the next book is supposed to help clear things up a bit.... I’ll read it to see if it does and if it doesn’t I’m downgrading my rating of this one. The ending was extremely unsatisfying which sucks when I spent hours reading it.

I enjoyed it, was almost to the end before I figured out the who dunnit :)

I am glad I pick her up again. I forgot how good she is. Read this back in 94 when first published. Stuck in my head for 20 years. Now starting the second one!

I did not enjoy this one at all. Cliched cop characters that were too obnoxious. They were too busy fighting and flirting to actually search for the missing boy. The crime itself makes no sense. I did not want to finish it and did not care about anyone or anything in this novel.

Profanity is a lazy way to express your opinion but this book isn’t even worth the in-depth takedown I could give it. So fuck this fucking book. Like, let’s glorify cop culture and make all the characters totally unlikeable cardboard cutouts that have been sitting in some gross outdated office complex until the sun bleached them dry, and then leave the whole fucking crux of the mystery totally unresolved! All of that would have been forgivable and a little bit fun if the male protagonist hadn’t been a fucking misogynist who fantasized about abusing women throughout the book as a weird foil for his nasty, tinned savior complex. Oof. What a waste of four days reading.
