incredibly weird if i’m being honest!!! it took me a while to sit down and get into it. i found it bizarre, unsettling, and slightly confusing….. but i think that’s what made it so powerful! the author/characters lean into discomfort and absurdity and that’s what works for this book! the writing was amazing and filled with strange intimacy and humor. i love the way this book dives into emotions and life experiences in a way that’s not easy or straightforward; that’s what gives it this lasting impact. but disclaimer: definitely not a read for everyone!!

The entire book reads as an intrusive thought. These are the horrifying things we think, but never indulge. Is Miranda July suggesting there are options outside of chiding ourselves and being shamefully human while feeling privately freakish?
