This book pissed me off and I’m sad about it. I think the pacing was weird. I felt like there was a whole lot of background info that made it feel slow in the beginning and then all of a sudden there was all this conflict and things got resolved but also we didn’t really see it happen. I also think pretty much all of the characters are annoying. I don’t know if I was supposed to like Caroline and see her as the voice of reason or not but I didn’t. She just didn’t seem empathetic and it didn’t always seem like she really liked rachel tbh. Overall sad bc I really liked if I never met you. I will continue to try. Also the fake coming out scene is so egregiously early 2010s and even with that in mind it greatly pissed me off
2012 not 2025 plotting i guess, I think this is just a her thing though
I tend to really enjoy a second chance romance, and enjoyed the other Mhairi McFarlane book I read a lot, so maybe my expectations were a little too high on this one. It was fun, I enjoyed it, but I wasn't blown away. I'm not totally sure why, but I didn't completely buy the relationship between Rachel and Ben. So yeah, it was fine. I will read more of her books, but this one isn't my favorite.
Charming. I appreciate that it focused on all the relationships across the friend group. The married man angle is tough, but a fair effort to sort it out. Definitely impressive as a debut novel. I am going to keep going through her catalog.

Love Mhairi McFarlane, however this has got to be one of my least favorite books of hers. That being said she tackled their story super well, I just don’t think I was able to come around to it.
This is your unashamed, warm and fuzzy, can’t- put- down, read-with- a- bar- of - Galaxy chick lit extravaganza. I. Freaking. Loved. It.
Yes, it was predictable- aren’t they all? But it was witty and funny, the characters were relatable and it had all the trappings of an excellent romantic comedy.
I will be reading this again at some point. ❤️❤️❤️

This was one of those books that could've been told in half the pages it's actually written in.
The story definitely dragged out way too long and there was a lot of pointless chapters that weren't extremely necessary to the overall plot I don't think, yet I still enjoyed this story. The characters were loveable and sweet and the happy ever after was gut-wrenchingly heartbreaking and sickly sweet at the same time.
If you're patient, I would definitely recommend this book.

I actually hate this book. Agonizing.
I typically reserve 1 star for unreadable pieces of crap; that is not this book. The writing is good. The characters are believable.
But this book made me absolutely miserable for no reason. For no reason! There’s no pay off. The moral of the misery is that not taking action is a decision, that you need to have agency in your own life. I didn’t need to be tortured for 1000 pages to learn this lesson.
This book stressed me out. I was initially invested in the relationship, and it just became more and more torturous.
I’d read this author again, but just absolutely f*** this book.
