Thanks to NetGalley for the audiobook ARC!

Corrections in Ink is a detailed description of what should happen in our prison system. Though not a perfect prisoner (because there is no such thing!), Keri Blakinger describes how she used her time in prison to genuinely rehabilitate herself. At the same time, her book contains its fair share of 'prison drama' a la Orange is the New Black.

I found Corrections in Ink to be a very enlightening and frank memoir, which I would recommend to anyone who enjoys the genre.

Autobiography, Non Fiction, Social Justice

This is such an amazing story. I have been following Blakinger on tik tok for months and have loved her videos, I loved reading this book and hearing her story start to finish. She is an amazing writer, this book was hard to put down.

The way this book shows the horrible things that are happening in prison is so important. She tells her story and makes sure to acknowledge her privilege and how it benefited her experience with the justice system.

This book was an emotional read. The descriptions of the atrocities that happened in prison made me so angry I had to stop reading to calm myself. The descriptions of her and others struggles with mental illness had me tearing up, as did many other parts. But other parts brought tears of joy: her happy ending, the Texas prisoners getting teeth, her reunion with her dog, and many more moments.

This is a book I think everyone needs to read, a story everyone needs to hear. So many people continue to suffer in this pointless, cruel, racist, horrible, disgusting system everyday, yet so many people ignore it. They insist it’s necessary, beneficial even. Bringing awareness to these problems is the first step in progress, we need people like Keri Blakinger who is not only telling her own story, but continuing to tell others and advocate for a better system.

This was so mesmerizing about what Keri went through and her experience after. I found this book from her Instagram and was so intrigued, I had to buy the book. This was so worth it and was so interesting to read. If you like anything involving jails/prisons, this is the book for you!

A gritty, intense memoir that explores self-destruction, the prison system, and hard-earned redemption. Certainly not for the faint-hearted, but a staggering story that will have a profound impact on its readers and, hopefully, society at large.
