Ugh, finished this book because I have a habit of not giving up and always finishing a book I’ve started.

I liked the concept of the book, but I think the story could have been told more concisely.
There were a few good twists that I didn't see coming until right before their reveals.
The book was a mystery, but also tackled the issues of feminism, woman's rights, and the psychology of the self preservation instinct. In its attempt to shed light on these things while also keeping the plot moving at a steady pace, the book had times where the writing became superfluously wordy.

The favorite sister revolves around the cast of a feminist reality show, with the main characters consisting of the 4 leads on the show, as well as their romantic partners and producers.
For something that’s supposed to be fast-paced, I felt like this dragged a lot. Because we switch narrators often, a lot of the details are rehashed, just from someone else’s perspective. Adding to this is the element that many things are presented as facts, and then we later learn that they are lies. It took me about until I was about 50-60% of the way through the book to really get into a rhythm and want to know what actually “happened”. Even then, the end fell a little flat for me.
This plot-twist filled thriller with “evil” women seems to be popular as of late, so if that’s your thing, you might like this one as well.

Chapters that were entirely too long and it was just one conversation after another of women either being horrible to each other or making nasty comments about other women or men. Not my cup of tea.

The plot of this is very reminiscent of The Great Gatsby adapted for 2017, but the characters in that book are a lot more likable.
Graphic: Body shaming, Eating disorder, Fatphobia, Violence, Schizophrenia/Psychosis , and Toxic friendship
Moderate: Body shaming, Homophobia, Suicide, Murder, and Lesbophobia
