I loved it actually. Especially the end. Damn, I nearly cried. IM NOT BEING SENSETIVE

This book took me forever and while I really enjoyed it, there were times when I was confused and times when I didn't understand why Bitterblue did what she did. It was great to have some characters from the other books back as well.
The ending also answered a lot of questions, but I feel like it didn't answer enough. A lot of things change near the end of the book and the resolutions to some of these things isn't specific enough in my opinion.
It was really good though and I definitely recommend it if you enjoyed Graceling.

First i have to say the illustrations in this book were beautiful. Then the book my favourite by far so far! We have all of the characters brought in and it all starts to make sense this book links all 3 so far and leads us to a whole new way of life for all of our characters. I absolutely love the writing and world building this author gives us. Bitterblue was a frustrating character at first but you watch her grow and become who shes meant to be.  Loved it.

This is still my least favorite of the series, though I have to admit that I enjoyed it much more as an adult than I did as a teenager. The problem I have is that the solution to all of Bitterblue's problems, the answer(s) that she's seeking all through the book, was dreadfully banal. As an adult, I can appreciate the nuance of politics and a court mired in intrigue (which is where the strength of this story lies - especially as Bitterblue grows less questioning and more curious/proactive) and the growth of the side characters (who were main characters in Graceling). We see so much more of Giddon and Bann (who were almost ornamental in the first book), which I very much appreciated.

I think my problem was really the let down of our solution. It's complicated and messy and if we understood more about the political structure (or lack thereof) from the outset, I think I would have been more understanding? You have to think that, before the events of this book, Bitterblue was queen for EIGHT YEARS and she's only just now asking questions? How did the kingdom even run before Bitterblue came of age? What decisions were made on her behalf? It felt rather like we just skipped ahead for the sake of having an 18 year old protagonist rather than because it really made sense for the political climate of the country.

Good but not my favorite of the series

THIS BOOK NEEDED TRIGGER WARNINGS!!! TW: suicide, self harm, SA, harm to children.

This book was much heavier in my opinion than the first two in the series, and I wish I had known that when I started reading. It was a good plot, but it wasn’t what I was looking for at the moment. I wish I had known how messed up some parts would be in advance, and it makes me nervous about reading future books in the series.
