A re-read outside the classroom for a book club. Look, certainly parts of the text should be and are criticized. But I marveled still about the questions Lawrence puts to his readers about self, partnership, class, and more.

<Also, it is a profoundly unique experience to read a romance book in which the leads are not very likable.>

Lady Chatterley's Lover arouses readers' curiosity with its alluring, sensual gaze, enticing them with its philosophical critique on modernity, industrialisation, class, and sexuality. Lawrence passionately examines sexuality, portraying it not as a taboo but illuminating it as a beacon for physical and spiritual connection, unifying both mind and body—a complete emancipation that fosters a deeper, more meaningful connection rather than a mechanical one. Whilst the novel might have an exemplary opening, it doesn't extricate itself from its frustrating and equivocal ending.

every time i had to read the phrase bitch-goddess i frowned a little more each time. the reviews that said if it weren’t for the fact that this book was banned, no one would’ve read it are completely right because that’s literally the reason why i read it. this book may have been ahead for its time, but it really doesn’t hold up today.
