3.5 stars

Still enjoyed this quite a lot -- it was very odd, just as I'd remembered it being when I read it in 4th grade. I can't rate it any higher than 3.5/5 tho, since it's got no women characters (who actually speak), & also a vaguely racist depiction of an Indigenous man.

Very interesting! I would recommend it.

Read this in 4th grade it was pretty interesting and a great adventure book. It was in this was class and we wrote adventure stories aftwerwards and two boys in the class jumped into a pile of donated clothes. This has nothing to do with it so sorry!

DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU WANT A STORY KINDA! DONT WANT TO WASTE YOUR TIME

This one one of my favorites as a kid, one of those books that clued me in to the fact that the world was much larger than my little corner of it. It's like fetish porn for a ten-year-old, with exotic pacific islands, uncontrolled flight (you go where the wind blows you), secret caves, untold riches and earthshaking explosions. I need to dig this up and re-read it some day.

Just as great a read as it was when I was in elementary school. I was surprised at how much of the book I recalled. I had thought the Professor spent longer on the island though. It was only 4 days!

In hindsight, this book is the reason I’m a communist
adventurous funny lighthearted medium-paced

With a mix of science and adventure and a dash of Verne, a very enjoyable read.

Kate DiCamillo recommended this 1948 Newbery-Award winner, so I picked it up and absolutely could not believe how charmed I was. It has nothing in common with what we might call "children's literature" today, and yet the whimsy of it--the odd childlikeness of adults and adultlikeness of children made me understand why it was once considered "kid lit."

Loved it! It's a little slow in the beginning but if you stick with it, it's totally worth it!
