Kurang suka dengan terjemahannya dan ada beberapa typo. Kisah petualangan, yang tidak mendebarkan, membosankan, dan aneh. Tapi baguslah karena salah satu settingnya di Gunung Krakatau.

A completely absurd and delightful book about a teacher who retires, builds himself a giant balloon, and sets out to travel the world. His trip is shorter than expected though, and he crash lands on the island of Krakatoa, home of the famous volcano. He is shocked to find a small community of people living there already in total secrecy from the rest of the world. Read the book to find out the clever ways they have set up their society and the amazing inventions they have created to make life easier (and more fun!) I would give this book 3.5 stars if I could because it is a very wordy book, with most of it being exposition and description, which is overwhelming for its slim 180 pages.

The girls and I really enjoyed this story. It was a really engaging, creative and inventive story. There was something new and fun in almost every chapter. Definitely recommend!

Charming middle grade story that reminded me somewhat of My Father's Dragon (in terms of quaintness, adventure, and ingenuity of the characters), but for a slightly older audience. Would be a fun read aloud with kids.

One of my very favorite books from childhood. I can't wait to read it to my kids!

Slow start. Not good for reluctant readers.

Very slow beginning. I was really worried that my kids wouldn't like it (we were reading it aloud). About chapter 4 when the story finally takes place is when things picked up. My kids thought it was a great adventure and the ended up really liking the book.

As always a wonderful read/reread! The audio edition was great, but reading it is always better.

My 11 year old daughter loved this adventure story. What's not to love? Balloons, tropical islands, volcanos, diamonds, daring escapes...

I hadn't read this before so I wasn't sure about it, but she was immediately in to the story and it also inspired several good discussions because she didn't totally agree with all the choices some of the island-dwellers made.

(I asked her how many stars she'd give this and she said five.)

A weird little book. My reading companion and I were not very impressed.
