Have you ever finished a book and immediately wanted to start from the beginning again?

Plan A is one of the most beautiful books I've ever read, I wish I could make everyone read it. I think books like this are so important- especially today. Ivy is so smart and beautiful and brave and I adore her. The whole cast in this one is just so lovely- Mason, her brother repeatedly surprised me in the very best ways.

This book gave me so many feelings. I laughed, I wept, I felt empowered and angry, I hugged it. I'm not one to annotate or highlight in books but I kept thinking to myself as I read/listened (the audio is amazing- Jorjeana Marie was the absolute perfect choice.) that I would love to highlight that. and THAT. and definitely this, until I realized I'd probably end up highlighting the entire book.

I wish I could give this book a million stars. It is forever in my list of favorite reads of all time.

I don't know why this book hasn't gotten more buzz, it feels so important. I'd put it in every middle and high school in this country if I could. Maybe if they'd kept what must have been the original title "Abortion Roadtrip Love Story" I'd see it more places! It deals with layers of history and story in a non-didactic way. I will say it took a minute to get into it, the roadtrip feels slow, especially as what's happening at home heats up, I almost wanted to skim those parts, but halfway through I was all in.

Her story. Her choice.

Ivy is a sixteen-year-old girl from Paris, TX who just discovered she’s pregnant. She didn’t even know that was possible based on what happened to her. Now she has to figure out a way to get to Oregon where her grandmother lives so she can get an abortion since it’s not legal in Texas. Once everyone accidentally finds out about the pregnancy, Ivy is more than ready to leave the town behind. With her newish boyfriend they head off on a road trip to fight for her right to choose.

This is such an important YA book that is more prevalent now than ever. As a Texan it’s hard to live in a state that makes decisions about our bodies. Ivy’s story, and so many more like hers, are happening all over this country. Stories like this bring a light to their experiences, when most of the time, they’re not talked about. Ivy’s support system in her family and relationship was strong, but her friendships were weak and that is a very honest portrayal about what many go through, I’m sure. The audiobook was phenomenally narrated.
