Stage 2 of the mage trials begins and this time it flipped the script. I had thought I was in for a mage vs mage showdown but I actually got was a cooperative competition where all the mages teamed up to reach the center of a dungeon. And it freaking rocked the locks of my box of Sox! My favorite arc of the series so far. Love the story were getting in the present and all the flashbacks that give the present that much more meaning when we see what Frieren knows from her past adventures.

I've seen some sentiment online that the series was better at the start than in these later volumes because of the transition to more battles. But reading this, I'm laughing and excited even more than during the earlier volumes. There isn't a lot here that makes me feel reflective, unlike some other volumes, but in spite of the tension and combat all the charm of the series is omnipresent.
