Heartbreaking and hard to think of enduring so much unrelenting hardships. I really enjoyed the chapter breaks where it provides a short history on the time of things, almost like two books, but supporting each other with context and storyline. The way the characters talked really annoyed me with repeating themselves constantly, though. I loved the mother and son relationship. That was hard to read their final goodbye.

I can usually hang with slow. But this was agonizing.
