Armentrout really has some favorite tropes that show up in all her fantasy- MFC with mysterious powers and parentage, bad boy/morally grey MMC, forbidden love, save the world. Distilled down to essential plot points and main character characteristics, White Hot Kiss and Half-Blood are essentially the same story. That being said, it is exactly what you expect and a good read for the genre - engaging, dramatic, quick read. It’s YAF and it delivers YAF.

In another accidental blunder I read an entire series (storm & fury) that was apparently a spin off of THIS series that I had no idea existed. What a pleasant surprise to realize one of the best characters (Roth) has these 3 books for me to enjoy! JLA continues to have very questionable editing (does she actually have an editor? We may never know) but writes stories that I can’t put down. The biggest issue I have is that the name of this one is such a disservice! White hot kiss, seriously? This is about demons and gargoyles and freaking Lilith. Petition to rename all the books in this series. Anyways… JLA has me in a chokehold and I’m ashamed, but also no regrets
