Although this book took a lot to get into, after getting into it I was hooked, you can quickly grasp on to the feelings of this character and what she goes through :D x

these two are so toxic. i don't think twilight is as bad as everyone makes it sound, it's just really boring. but that scene where alice came back and bella was just gushing about how pretty she was and how good she smelled... i know what you are.

This writing is truly awful, but I kept reading the entire series because, ya know, I was a counselor and my campers would argue with me that Bella > Hermione, AND I HAD TO SHUT THAT NONSENSE DOWN. For feminism.

Goodreads has this marked as my second reread, when in reality it is a number larger than I care to admit. It was in my pre-Goodreads life. As such, no review has ever been written for it and now I will rectify that.
I’ll always dislike this book out of all four of them, simply due to being a Team Edward fan. I do question the direction of this series now, reading as an adult rather than teen. When Twilight got slack for being insta-love-y, did the author include Jacob as a person to be in their love triangle simply to represent her struggle between two men; to give more substance to Edward and Bella’s romance? To try to make it less of insta-relationship? It’s interesting because reading it now shows that Bella never loved Jacob like that, not even a little bit, so how was it ever considered a love triangle? It’s a couple, with a friend who loves her added into it. Through it all, it was Edward. Jacob was a friend that helped her heal. She said over and over she didn’t think of him romantically. Toward the end, when she was more healed up, she did consider it, but her thoughts of “Can I eventually be who he wants me to be?” definitely shows he’s second on her list. And then after everything, she went straight back to Edward and ran off to save him, so really, what was Jacob thinking?
This book has a lot of criticism for her drama after the breakup. I think it’s realistic. When you know a love that deep, and you are a teenager, life literally feels like it ends. The author did a fantastic job at showing depression.
The writing quality gets a lot better in this one from the first.

The angst! The blank monthly pages as time passes! Again, we learn so much more about Jake’s ancestry and the legends than was ever covered in the movies, which I expected but it really does fill in some important gaps. The writing has matured as well from Twilight to New Moon.
