I've owned a copy of book thief for quite sometime. I know there's a movie adaptation, which I haven't seen. For a book this chonky, I'm surpised at how light it is.
This might be a bit inappropriate but you know how excited I was to read some German words in this book? It felt like I was getting a refresher in some of the words, and going "Ooh.. I know what those mean."
Unfortunately with a book like this it went through the eyes and out the ears. It wasn't that I struggled to read it, I just struggled to see it as any more than just words on a page.

This book exceeded my expectations and was written in a way that I have never seen before. The unique narration style and constant foreshadowing took away from the emotional impact of the words at times, but also added a haunting tone to the story.
This was so good, hearing deaths point of view makes it more hard hitting, not understanding humans and their unwavering determination to do what they do, a young girl and a family filled with kindness and a whole street wiped out by cruelty

YOU ARE GONNA HATE ME, I KNOW!!

This book has a very original idea. Writing a book from the perspective of DEATH in a period of war and Holocaust is a very special idea and the transition from the non-fictional books about Holocaust to a fictional book that is for YA as well, is big for me, because I have read a lot of books on this topic, that is why I keep having high expectations.
It breaks my heart to give it just 3 /5 but it just didn't made me feel any connection or pain (which is literally unbelievable since I am in pain whenever I tink about this tragedy). Also, I feel it was a very long book without a valid reason, the plot could have been shorter than this for sure. The end made me feel more connected with the book, and Liesel had suffered a long way, but I was expecting that. It was a good book, the beginning was very slow, and the end made me feel something, but I just feel it could have been so much more. I feel that the plot was dragged for a long time and didn't actually develop. It had great potential, it was a great idea, just didn't develop well later on :).

i don't think i can even formulate a proper review, it feels like my heart has been ripped to shreds and sewn back together with a rusted needle. i absolutely adore markus zusak's writing and just everything about this book is so devastatingly beautiful i just can't
