I would say this is a 3/3.5 star read for me. It was a super quick and easy read. Nothing blew me away to where it’s my all time favorite but I did like it. The things said and situations that happened made me really angry sometimes. There were also times I felt on the edge of my seat and it made me not put the book down often. I read it in three sittings and it was about 4 hours in total. I plan on picking up the second one today since this was a quick read, I’m excited to see what happens next.

Didn't finish. Didn't like the set up. Characters felt flat and I couldn't connect to them. I'm very sad because I had high hopes. I couldn't stay into it.

Really enjoying this and can't wait to see how things go in the next book. Honestly feel like its hard to say too much about it though until I read the full series!

I have one advice for publishers: If something only happens about 50 pages before the book is ending, maybe don't make it sound in the blurb as if that's what the entire book is about. It leads to disappointment, which is a pity, because that leads to lower ratings (this cost you one star), which is unfair to the author, who actually did a great job writing a nice book.

So, that said. It took me some time to get into the book. The book reads easily. The text flows nicely and it's not too complicated or upper class level. Which is nice, because even though I was tired I could keep my pace. But it takes a while before the true story starts. The first half of the book is mostly world building and introducing the characters and in a way I still don't feel like I actually really know them by now.

But, slowly, in the second half of the book, the plot starts going. Questions get asked, answers get sought and eventually what was promised in the blurb on the back takes place and that's when the story actually takes off. That was the moment I moved to the edge of my seat and wanted to read faster and faster and faster. That was the moment I wanted to know what was going on and was curious what was gonna happen.

And then the book was already done, which was such a pity, because I now feel like the story has actually only just started. At some point I will surely get the next book. But, not sure when that's gonna be.

I’m a sucker for a good Queen of Hearts origin story ever since reading Heartless!

Given my obsession with re-tellings from different POV, especially the "villian", there was basically no chance I wasn't going to enjoy this. Basically I feel like this first one lays out all the players and sets up all the questions, that I am hoping the later ones will answer. Is anyone trustworthy? Is anyone evil?

I followed the book all the way through in hopes the plot would get better, it sadly, did not.
