I first discovered Alan Gratz while teaching middle school Reading. I was looking for books that would interest the boys I taught. While I did find just that, I also found that I love his writing myself. I have read almost all of his books and haven't once been disappointed. This book is a little different from most of his others in that it's not historical fiction. It's written in the present day and deals with a modern-day issue - terrorism. The protagonist, Kamran, is living the American dream. He's a high school senior, has a great girlfriend, an awesome best friend, is the star of his football team, and he has aspirations of going to West Point just like his older brother and hero, Darius. His mother is Iranian, but that has rarely been a problem for him in his post-9/11 lifetime - until now. His brother is being accused of being a terrorist working with Al-Qaeda but Kamran is sure that can't be true and is determined to prove his brother's innocence. Just as clues start to point to his brother's guilt, Kamran starts discovering hidden clues in his brother's video communications. These are clues that only Kamran can understand. Will he be able to prove that his brother is innocent and will he be able to save his country from another terrorist attack?
