WOW WOW WOW. this is my second book by denise and definitely my favorite!! nia and jake just felt so real. like they were imperfect characters, their reactions to certain situations was just so human, and i loved them for it. i honestly wouldn’t change a thing about this book. each of their pasts made me cry ngl - especially nia’s. they were just so cute with each other - the back and forth was so funny and had me giggling and smiling while listening. the spice was phenomenal - jake could GET IT.

⚠️: domestic abuse, emotional abuse, physical abuse, toxic relationship (fmc and her ex), gaslighting, misogyny, sexual assault (attempted), sexual harassment (workplace), racism, stalking, panic attacks/disorders, infidelity (not mcs), vomit

CW: DV- graphic ( not btw the couple), harassment, sexual content, cheating mentioned with a side character

I really did love this book, the build to the relationship the way Denise discussed a topic that is not often seen in romance books- DV.

My only issue with the book was the lack of working through the break up and how they communicated with one another. It was sort of overlooked with what happened to the FMC and I wanted more from them.

I read Denise Williams’s three airport novellas last year and immediately knew I had to try her full novels. Thankfully the charming characters and swoon-worthy romance plots easily translated, and I loved this just as much as I loved those. I was as proud of Naya at the end as I would’ve been for any real life person, which is a testament to Denise Williams’s ability to write a real, complex story.

TW for intimate partner violence, a physically and emotionally abusive relationship, and (less so) stalking.

This was such a good read I absolutely loved Naya’s personal journey as well as her journey with Jake. Jake and Naya were so great together and I really thought they clicked so well. I could see the connection emotionally and physically and it didn’t just feel physical. I loved the domestic violence awareness and how she fought back and overall it was really good 4/5 = 7.5/ 10

I was not a huge fan of the way the final conflict played out (mostly because I can be pretty touchy about the subject matter), but other than that I thought this was quirky, sweet, and well worth the read. I am a big fan of how she developed the romance in a very real way, as well as how the characters actually felt like adults and acted their age. I will definitely be looking into other books by this author in the future.
