I loved and found this book so weird at the same. I loved the representation and found the plot really interesting. The way witches use their magic and the way society uses the witches was super intriguing. However, I found the use of French a bit jarring. As a native French speaker from Québec (same as the author), I had no problem reading and understanding the French used in the text, I just found it weird the way it was used. French was used the same way fantasy authors make up names and languages for their world building, except in this, the author used her first language. I don't know if it's just me, but I can't seem to get over the weird feeling I got reading the French bits.

Baker Thief was fast-paced and exciting. I loved the dynamic between Claire and Adele. A vigilante thief and a police officer playing cat and mouse, and keep running into each other and seeing new sides of each other. I really liked reading about their relation becoming more and more complicated!

The exocores were a really clever element in the story. Truly horrifying, but brilliant.

Overall I really enjoyed reading this book!

This book is full of LGBTQIA+ representation that feels both authentic and mundane.

I say 'mundane' with genuine approval. It's so refreshing to see a cast of characters that are as diverse as real life and treated in a way that doesn't require justification or explanation.

This story includes characters who are genderfluid, non-binary, demisexual, use non-traditional pronouns, and more.

The aromantic representation, in particular, I found really well done - “Powerful love comes in many forms, and not all of them need to be romantic. I daresay most aren’t.”

The story itself is compelling, the world building is fascinating, and the characters are relatable and interesting.

I did feel like it dragged a little during the third quarter, but overall, I enjoyed it quite a lot.
