So many "secrets".  In the end, is it more important to be forgiven or to be understood?

Set at the end of World War II. My favorite parts were the scenes in the castle. It had a life of its own.

I found this a bit of a slog, if I'm honest. I found the premis intriguing and parts of the book reminded me of "Anonyma" Eine Frau in Berlin but I just failed to connect to any of the women of the castle even though I really rather wanted to. A shame and I feel that it was an opportunity missed to shed light on a different aspect of the war years and their aftermath.

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys WWII era fiction. As a whole it as good, however, I'm only giving it three stars (liked it) because it wasn't what I was expecting from the title and description. It's hard to pinpoint exactly, but something was missing and I think it was the fact that unlike the title suggests, "The Women in the Castle" were only actually in the castle for about 1/8 of the book. I think each woman was giving a great backstory and we got to know them as individuals, but as far as their friendships go there was really nothing that would make me assume that they really even liked each other. We get a picture of them directly after the war as they are gathered together in the castle with their families, distrustful, and secretive, and not really very much is put forth to show that they are or will bond. Then all of a sudden we are pushed forward 5 or so years and now they are these great friends. I get that it could be that way, but I think we as readers needed to see how they got to that point.

I did enjoy the historical details and finding out a little about what it was like in Germany directly following the war. So I liked it, I didn't love it. I think with some tweaking it could have been a four or five-star read. But those are few and far between so I'm satisfied with this little book.

I would recommend this book over and over. This book covers a different prospective of World War II, the Germans left over after the fighting stops. This book will stay with me. It is unimaginable the endurance people showed when the only thing they had to their name was the will to survive.

I really enjoyed it, I wouldn't say love, but it was a nice change from my usual YA reads. I liked that there were alternating perspectives and how it was also about the past, not just the present. It had a nice pace to it, and I liked the characters for the most part. I did find some of them irritating at some moments, but it just made the characters more real.

Everyone likes to think if they were in Germany right before & during WWII they would have, without a doubt, been in the resistance. But sometimes, oftentimes, life isn't black and white.

In "The Women in the Castle", we follow three women who make three different life choices during one of the worst times in our worlds history. Good people doing good and also making mistakes. Marianne, the resistor, can't reconcile that. She judges the actions of others who don't stand firmly with her.

A great reminder life isn't cut and dry. Judge not...

I know a lot of people liked this book and I'm sorry I have to give it such a low rating. The writing is okay, that's not the problem but it has so little dialogue it reads more like a series of essays than a novel. Also, the plot twists are so unbelievable and forced, I found it very tiresome. I stuck with it for almost 3/4 of the way through, largely due to the good reviews but I just don't have that much time to waste and ended up moving on

Latarnya setelah perang dunia kedua berakhir. Marianne berhasil menemukan 2 janda pejuang perlawanan lain, yaitu Benita Flederman & Ania Grabarek beserta anak2 mereka. Mereka tinggal di puri keluarga, & menemui berbagai tantangan walau perang sdh berakhir.
