Nice light story that made me think about fate and happy endings.

Fate or not, our lives are still the result of our choices.

Hannah's life is a mess. At 29, she's lost and is still trying to find her place in the world. After ending an affair with a married man, she goes to Los Angeles to stay with her best friend, Gabby. She has hopes of getting her life together, getting a job, and possibly rekindling things with her high school boyfriend, Ethan. Her story splits into two different paths one night when she goes out to a bar with friends: one path where she leaves the bar with Ethan, and the other path where she leaves early with Gabby.

My favorite thing about this book was Hannah and Gabby's friendship being so strong and solid no matter the shit storm that was wrecking their lives in both paths. Other than that, I really didn't connect to any characters individually or any of the romantic relationships. I'm a huge fan of TJR's writing, but in this I feel like it failed to make me feel deeply about any of the themes or messages she was trying to get across.

Since loving her newer releases, I feel like this really shows how much she has grown as a writer and it's incredible. I know I shouldn't compare, but I know she's capable of writing characters with layers and depth that really stick with you. Whereas in this, Hannah's defined by her quirk of loving cinnamon rolls and wearing her hair in a bun. Really not necessary to bring up cinnamon rolls on every other page, it was starting to make me nauseous.

While this wasn't my favorite, it was a quick and somewhat charming read. I'm hoping to read the three backlist books I have left for her sometime this year.

TJR is my new age author. Plain and simple. I would’ve easily read this in an afternoon if I had planned better.

Hannah is returning to LA as she figures out her next path. Her first night in town, she has the choice to either go home with her friend or stay for another drink with her ex. So she chooses…

Both! This book alternates chapters between what happens when she chooses each option and the consequences that follow.

I LOVE this premise and was immediately hooked. There have been times where I’ve wondered how different my life would have been if I have chosen one option instead of the other, so it was fascinating to see how Hannah’s life (lives?) played out.

I will say toward the end it started to lose steam for me. If something was revealed in one reality, I was WAITING to see how it would be revealed in the other. The last 30 pages were meh. I also got annoyed by the constant cinnamon rolls references.

TJR never fails, honestly. this book has been on my physical tbr for so long and i can’t believe im only just reading it now.

the way she moves between parallel universes so seamlessly is honestly so crazy and i love it.

her presentation of female friendships in this is my favourite part. so beautiful.
