This was the first famous five book I read when I was younger. George is so unlikable for a lot of this book. If I’d read book 1 first I probably would have liked her a lot more than I did. This book was a bit slow and took a while before anything too adventurous happened. It was so sad when Tim was out in the cold getting sick. Terribly sad.
The ending was great definitely a sense of foreboding the whole book
What a great children's book; I enjoyed it almost as much as I had when I was a child, reading my mum's original 1942 hardcover (it had great illustrations, which I missed in this paperback)

One of my favourites as a child, I still love revisiting these classic adventures on a rainy Sunday afternoon. SO pure and wholesome, the whole series is to love and cherish!
This was a very fun, fast wintery read. I'm addicted to this series so I would pick other books to help me rewind.
I am by no means the target audience for these books anymore so wasn't sure what re-reading this would be like. I was most happy to find I still enjoyed this!
This is the second book in the Famous Five series, they were never my favourites (I much preferred the Secret Seven) but are still pretty good reads. It may also help that I haven't read the books for 10 years but I didn't remember the plot details in the way I thought I would (and as I did with the Redwall books).
I can certainly see why these books are so popular, and I really love how old they are and the era they represent - if only we could be as carefree as the children in these books in this modern world!

Jeg har læst denne bog mange gange gennem min barndom og altid den gamle udgave, min far læste da han var dreng. Sproget er gammeldags, men for mig bidrager det blot til stemningen af eventyr og ferier i barndommen og med de lingvistiske briller på er det sjovt at se sproget udvikling. Bogen er fuld af mystik og hemmeligheder og holder i den grad læseren fanget. Disse bøger dør aldrig, og med de nye oversættelser vil de være tilgængelige for mange generationer fremover.
