I picked this up because it had a Rainbow Rowell recommendation on the front. It is no Eleanor and Park or Fangirl.

An enjoyable light-hearted YA romance. The small Canadian town setting was a highlight.

An enjoyable combination of YA romance, family history, and comic book history. If you know anything about the tangled history of comic book creators and their lawsuits, it takes on extra meaning.

finished two books today, so proud of myself...also this book makes little sense and yeah. just read something else, not this. the author doesn't understand how starbucks works and I have no idea when this book takes place. everything was so needlessly escalated (except for one plotline with her friend and her friend's boyfriend). yeah that's it I'm giving this book away.

The resemblance new this story and Romeo & Juliet is almost none existent. The families are not at war with each other, sure one ended up rich and the other poor but really this is more of a hate to love story.

It was a nice surprise that this book was set in Canada though, as a Canadian finding books set here is always a treat.

Mir’s character is so set in her ways that it takes a new guy to get her out of her routine, and this is a trope that I’m kinda of tired of. Weldon rolls into town, flashes a smile and she is destined to fall for him because “he’s different.” I really wanted it to play out differently but alas we don’t always get what we want.

I’m a real fan of the authors graphic novels and had high hopes for this one but it was just middle ground for me. I will still check out other stuff from her in the future though.

*I got this book for review from the publisher*

I really enjoyed this romeo and Juliet inspired contemporary read! I found it to be a fun read and so much superhero and creativity love. I really enjoyed both POV and loved how both characters were dealing with self discovery issues as well! I would rec. this read i you like geekerella! I thought the book followed a pretty "normal" plot path but was a fun read. I was equally invested in both POV. It also addressed life topics like changing friends group, passion and leaving home for college. I found this to a be quick read but very fun!

This was a fun distraction and between books book. The characters were cute and the premise was fun, although some of the side character interactions felt really forced. The storyline with Raleigh (sp?) didn't really feel integral to the story and I like Evan's journey and his relationship with Mir, but nothing in this book really ever rose over "cute" for me. Cute is good, this book was good. But it wasn't everything.

These characters just fell so flat to me and I wish there was more comic culture woven throughout the story.

This was okay, I kind of feel like it's a missed opportunity to have this as a prose novel and not a comic book/graphic novel, especially since that's Hick's usual style but it was an okay book. I was intrigued by the enemies-to-lovers trope but I wasn't terribly engaged with the characters. The subtle nerd elitism was also a bit of a turn off (a line along the lines of "real cosplay is stuff you make yourself"), but I get why it's there.

I thought there’d be more conflict than there was, so I just ended up being not that interested in what was going on.
