One of the most beautiful, heartbreaking reads of recent memory.

Joe Biden has a way of coming off as both a self-serving career politician and a good and decent person. To a certain degree, this book strikes that same dual tone. I found the parts of the book about his family to be much more compelling than the parts about politics; however, even the sections that were about his work as Vice President seemed more genuine than the typical book written by a politician.

One especially poignant story begins early in the book when he describes meeting with the family of a fallen NYPD officer, and finishes later in the book when he reveals that this same family came to Beau's public wake.

It is hard to say what would have happened if Biden had decided to run for President, except that had he won, the country and indeed the world would be in much kinder and more stable hands.

Enjoyed the insight into grief for him and in general.

Oh, I just ADORED this book. I laughed, I cried, I missed Uncle Joe like crazy!!! What he and his family went through, and their grace and faith in starting to heal, was like a balm for the soul to read. I've always admired both him and his family, and now even more so. This was a beautiful book. Highly recommend.

Honestly it left me wanting a little more about Beau’s cancer journey, but it was overall interesting.

Obviously perfect in every way.

Joe Biden writes candidly about fulfilling the duties of vice president, while as the same time, trying to be a father to his oldest son, Beau, who was fighting his battle with brain cancer. My step-father died in 2002 from Brain cancer, and so, I can relate to what Biden was going through in watching a loved one struggle with a potentially terminal disease. The only difference is that he was a public figure, and he talks about being cautious of the wrong time to show emotion because might think a certain kind of way, but I think he handled everything with dignity and grace.

I didn’t know much about Biden before this, and I loved getting to hear his story. It was moving and thought provoking. He writes in a very approachable way.
