I like: "New beginnings" ~~"If I have learned anything this year, it is that I won't ever be ready for what life throws at me. I won't have the right words when it counts; I won't know what to choose when fate itself is staring me down. But now I know I don't always need to have the right answer."
"Where it hurts"
"My place in the universe"
"Meant to be"

Most of poems are just nice and pretty but nothing actually groundbreaking.

Why do I keep on reading break up poetry? Don't think I am the target audience yet agian. I AM DEFINITELY NOT THE TARGET AUDIENCE. Sorry for your break up, but I can not relate. If I did maybe I would like it more.

This is not bad, however some things are just unnecessary like "the shelter". I get it but without it the volume would be so much better in my opinion.
Or "when it's over" it's not really poetry or some lyrical prose it is just a STATEMENT. I feel like some of those titles are just fillers and it really makes this volume worse. Just keep the stuff with actual substance.

Her vocabulary is stale. She reuses the same phrases over and over and they’re all cliche. I counted each time she wrote the word “love” and it came to a total of 78, and that’s not including the titles or the amount of times she writes “lovers”. If you were to take a shot every time she wrote “love” you’d be dead.

Furthermore, in regards to this poem:

“Where they destroy, we create;
where they criticize, we inspire.
That is why they are the critics,
and we are the poets.”

People have a right to criticize your work. Critics provide valuable feedback and you’re degrading them because you’re self centred and ignorant.

Sea of Strangers is a culmination of poems by Lang Leav that emphasizes on love, hope and heartbreak.

The best collection of poetry I've read till date. The poems being raw and authentic to the core, successfully leaves an imprint on you and makes you yearn for more of Leav's poetic work.

What is even more delightful to learn is that after the poet wrote the poem "Sea of Strangers", she met the love of her life : a man who lived across the ocean from her. And she crossed the ocean to be with him. She speaks about this in the introduction of the book.

Now isn't this enough to make you believe in the power of words? Isn't this sufficient to make you believe in love as an eternal concept?

The poet has extremely well placed all the poems shuffling between love and heartbreak and healing that crashes with your heart one after another like a tsunami of emotions.
If love had a scent, it would

be seaweed and sandcastles,

on the cusp of November,

and the sigh of your breath

on my sun-kissed skin.

- an excerpt from Sandcastles p87.

Most of the poems are based on the theme of sea, ocean, sandcastles, water and emanate a feeling of bittersweet nostalgia and longing that tugs the heartstrings of the readers.

The poems are delicate and tend to overwhelm you at times.

Definitely craving for more of Lang Leav's poetry.

Recommended for everyone.

Sea of Strangers is the first book I have read by Lang Leav and it was exquisite. Her words are often beautiful yet tragic but always with a hint of hope.

A stunning collection that I shall be revisiting in the future.

Full RTC.

Mine is Sea of Strangers by Lang Leav. Love and lost, self recovery and self loving.
Below are some of my favourite.

My Life
I will celebrate this life of mine, with or without you. The moon does not need the sun to tell her she is already whole.

Wishing Well
Into a well
a girl threw a penny.
What do you wish for?
asked the well.
I wish for a penny,
said the girl.

Reclaiming the Sky
Ask the sun to relinquish
the sky to the moon.
Tell the moon to rise
with a fierce
unyielding vengeance.
Remind her it is now
her time to glow.

Glad I didn’t end up buying this. What a bummer. I guess her poetry just isn’t to my taste, as this is the second book of hers that I really haven’t liked.

"What happens after you feel everything there is to feel? Somehow, there is a sense of comfort in knowing nothing will ever hit me quite as hard again. Nothing will ever be as beautiful, but neither will anything hurt as much. "
