The subtlety!!! While at the same time the narrator, Moominpappa, is not subtle about himself at all. Again, it’s so much about what she chooses not to say.
(I refrained from rating because I am certain the relative absence of Moomin the younger and Snufkin (and Little My, and Snorkmaiden) is prompting me to rate it lower than it deserves).

My favourite in the moomin series so far! Loved getting to know the backstory for all the characters and was really invested in the plot line!
Spoiler
Oh, my! Moominpappa lied to the first friend he have ever had on their first meeting; telling Hodgkins that he was found by the Hemulen laying on a pretty little basket of leaves, instead of, the truth that when he was found on the doorstep of the Moomin Foundling Home, he was carelessly wrapped in newspaper and it was a shopping bag he was laying on. Not a good way to start a new relationship. And certainly, not a what you call a very strong foundation — certainly, not for a friendship! Amazingly, Moominpappa and Hodgkins remain friends since their first meeting up until they separated ways. Hodgkins never found out that Moominpappa lied to him anyway. I do not really have a problem with Moominpappa's lying since he is notorious for exaggerating and romanticizing such things. And for a very short review: I really enjoyed Moominpappa's lies, exaggerations, and romanticizations in his memoirs. Oh! The many times I had laughed.

this one is a bit different from the rest because most of it is narrated in first person by Muminpappa, whose voice is very distinct compared to the usual third person narrator. The story itself is alright, most of the time it is just the content of Muminpappa's memoir of what he did when he was young. The frame story of Muminpappa reading out the memoir in present day Mumindalen was alright too. There was a part that was really interesting though. In his memoir, Muminpappa met the parents of his audience (Sniff and Mumrik), this part is interesting both in how the parents are similar to/different from the children, and how the kids reacted to that part of the story. Other than that, while it might not be as enthralling as the previous entries, it's still enjoyable.
