This book is so creatively-written. When I picked this up originally, I wasn't aware that this would be composed of Chinese folklores. I'm not that familiar with the stories but I find the modern style of retelling very fascinating.

Going through the author's note:
"I hope my book makes those unfamiliar with the tales curious to read them.
For all readers, my not-so-secret wish is that this book gives you the same wonder, faith and peace that writing it gave me."

True enough, I definitely had a delightful time.

LIke Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, this book is a work of art. I love that the novel has such wonderful artwork along with the many folktales sprinkled throughout.

An excellent companion to Where the Mountain Meets the Moon: a little more subdued, with less action and just as much story. Grace Lin's ability to weave Chinese myths and stories so exquisitely, with endearing characters and an impeccable narrative voice, is commendable.

Holds its own with its companion, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon.

A very worthy successor to [b:Where the Mountain Meets the Moon|5983694|Where the Mountain Meets the Moon|Grace Lin|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1344265026s/5983694.jpg|6157354]. This book stands completely on its own, but there are several overlapping elements that tie the two stories together.
