What a bittersweet reading experience this was.

I have been a fan of Jodi Ellen Malpas for a while. With her alpha males, strong female characters and page turning storylines, she quickly became a must-buy author. She has truly outdone herself this time.

The American is the fifth and final book of the Unlawful Men series. 6 months ago, Brad saved Pearl from captivity, and since then all he can see is red. His conflicting feelings towards her boil over, affecting his entire being. He wants her, despite knowing he shouldn't, because in his world that kind of distraction could be deadly. Danger is coming for the Unlawful Men from all angles, and Brad knows that finding and killing the enemy has to be his priority, because a distraction is all it takes to tip the balance between life and death.

I have laughed, cried and gasped out loud throughout the series and this was no different. Whilst The American is Brad and Pearls story, the characters that we know and love are all back and in the middle of the action, (against their husbands wishes most of the time). The book was so thoroughly enjoyable, and although I have been waiting for the conclusion to the series for what feels like forever, I was so sad to read the last sentence. They might be over and out, but god knows I'll be coming back for them for many a re-read.

There are so many twists and turns in this book, (my poor mum having to deal with many, many shouty caps texts) and they kept me turning the page to the point all I wanted to do was race through it. Just when I think I've figured it out, the twists kept coming. Even if I felt like there were so many loose ends to tie up, Jodi did such a fantastic job that it never felt rushed or over the top, and she gave our boys the perfect ending.

This was one of the easiest 5 stars I've ever given, perfectly done from beginning to end.

Not usually a fan of the
pregnancy
trope, but this still ended up being really sweet

Brad has always seem to be our happy, go lucky, kind of guy within the group, but we get to see a completely different side of Brad in this book . He is grouchy, moody, arrogant to a fault and boy .. it is HOT ! Pearl is such a strong woman for only being twenty one years old . She is witty, cunning + can give as good as she get’s when it comes to Brad . These two are absolutely explosive when it comes to their chemistry together from the very first moment they meet, even though they HATE each other . But poor Brad never stood a chance + Pearl didn’t realize just how perfectly their lives intwined .

Wow . It’s taken me a week to get all my thoughts together + for me to stop crying about my favorite mafia series in the world coming to an end . It was so good seeing our three leading men + the ladies who brought them to their knees again . Finally learning just how much all of them are woven into Brad’s life and how critical it all was to the plot of the book .. Jodi is an absolute mastermind . From the plot, to the characters, to the moments that make you laugh out loud because all of these men have quirks, to the angst, drama + mysteries, to the friendships + love stories that are magical .. all the way to the most perfect ending for a series . I mean I haven’t cried that hard over a series ending in a LONG time . The last line of the book almost took me out .

I love this book . I love this series . I love these unlawful men . Here’s to them + their happily ever afters .

Over and Out .

This is the fifth and final book in The Unlawful Men series + it cannot be read as a stand alone .

PLEASE CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS !

This book was given to me for honest review by Valentine PR + Literary Management .

I really enjoyed this book. I prolonged it because I was not ready for it to be over. This book is told in the perspectives of Danny, Rose, Brad, and Pearl. I missed James and Beau’s perspectives but I understand why it was done that way since James and Beau's story was resolved at the end of book 4. This book was heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. There were so many moments where I was thinking oh no not again with new enemies appearing from nowhere. This book is a LONG one so be prepared for it. I cannot wait for the audiobook to be honest because I know I will end up buying it. I can go into excessive detail about the book, but honestly I don’t want to give away too much because this book needs you to go in sort of blind so you can get the full impact.

Oh Brad, what can I say about Brad?  Is he perfect? Umm, no. Is he an emotionally available? Again, no.  But is he loyal, strong, determined, protective and incredibly hot? Well I’m going to say ABSOLUTELY YES to that!

Jodi writes books like movies, they are so visual that you are in Miami with The Brit, The Enigma & The American, hanging out at the club, riding jet skis and you know dodging a bullet or two.  This is the last book in this series, and it does exactly what it’s supposed to do, we pick up right where The Rising left us and it’s full steam ahead.  And I do mean FULL STEAM!!! Jodi does not shy away from all the heat that is in this book!  And just like all the other books in this series The American is a multi-POV and I love that she gives everyone a voice.

This series is what good books look like, and all the books were just waiting for this last one.  All of our questions get answered, and we get glimpses into these characters futures with the perfect epilogues.  I can not say enough about this world, these characters, this story, except that everyone needs to read these books.  With one series Jodi has made me a fan, and I am heading off to her backlist for sure!!

  1. The Brit
  2. The Enigma
  3. The Resurrection
  4. The Rising
  5. The American
