I enjoyed this story. The main character was hard to like at times, which I think is an important part of the story, but it made it difficult for me to read. In the end, I like how things worked out and overall I enjoyed this story.

This story is short and sweet with a great message, great writing, and great humor - all while being clean and not taking God's name in vain once.

Ugly Stick by Joy Givens is a story about a girl named April, who feels that she is really ugly. She is a very awkward and shy girl who only hangs out with her best friend, Ani. She and Ani end up joining the yearbook committee which leads to a shocking discovery for April. She finds out that there is an "ugly-duckling" sort of curse on the women in her family. Feeling betrayed by her mom for not telling her about this curse, April makes a choice that will change her life forever, and not necessarily in a good way. I really liked this story,it is a cute little story about accepting who you are on the inside. April is really well written and is someone many girls can relate to. I highly recommend this book to teenage and preteen girls.
