I had a fun time reading the book. While it’s part of a series, it could comfortably be read as a single book. Loved the characters and their banter, it was fun.

3.5⭐️ i enjoyed the book… i wish there was more like hatred or dislike at the beginning i feel like it really quickly got into all of the tropes i love but missed the kinda slow burn set up. upset the her brother died in the end really wish he wouldve stayed alive but cest la vie

It’s nice to have a single book story like this, everything seems to be series lately. It can be hard to get all the lore and world building into one book, but I think the author did a good job without it feeling like info dumping.

Didn’t like the narrator- don’t do the rest of these in audiobook format

Solidly a 3.5 star.
While it was incredibly predictable in some places and the pacing felt a little off in the beginning, this book was a really fun ride. It fulfills its job as the first in a series well in the sense that it made me interested enough in the world and characters to want to keep reading, and it was really entertaining. That said, I am hoping for more worldbuilding in the next installment and for some of the pacing issues to resolve.
This book really would be perfect for fans of ACOTAR, though I don’t rate it as highly. Parts of it felt like ACOTAR revisited (and it’s obvious in those moments), but it wasn’t so egregious that I’d turn anyone away from the book.
Great for getting out a reading slump or for a finish-in-one-day book binge.
