I thought the book would be disappointed as most sequels tend be. I am glad that the author was still consistent with how she told the story. The plot was intriguing and I just could not put it down.

3.5/5 stars! SPOILERS AHEAD!
Okay this defiantly was not as good as I thought it was going to be, but it defiantly got better after 150 pages.
I was really upset that the former students that were in the first book barely made a appearance in this book. Bronwyn was a character I adored and was one of the biggest reasons why I loved the first one so much. She didn’t even have a chapter and I think she said only a few lines. Luckily Nate was a little bit more in the story. Addy barely makes an appearance but says more lines than Bronwyn and Cooper doesn’t even say anything we just see him play one game through a live stream.
I understand that maybe there wasn’t a lot more story to go on as the first book could easily be the end but I felt maybe they could of done this story but then just carried on maybe? I don’t know but I thought the book did get better after I was pretty annoyed that it was all new characters (sort of, not really they were mostly background characters and most of them were new faces.) I actually really liked Phoebe the most. I think she had the best character development and was a bit more of an interesting character and I really enjoyed the blooming romance between her and Knox. The geeky boy with the popular girl.
Meave who I think was supposed to be the driving force for this book didn’t really feel like the main character to me. She annoyed me at times but I do think her dealing with maybe her cancer coming back was heartbreaking. I was following that more than her romance with Luis.
I have to admit though I did see Emma being apart of it really early on unfortunately. When she started heavily drinking and when Bayview2020 stopped replying on the forum as soon as she ‘lost’ her phone and when the secret of Phoebe sleeping with her ex came out when Phoebe said she told no one I thought immediately that Derek probably told Emma and she’s using that as bait and that’s why she wants revenge.
What I didn’t know was than Brandon was the one that actually killed Emma’s father accidentally when he was 13 on a construction site AND right at the end their little brother Owen also ( sort of but sort of not) being involved. The ending line was so clever and left me feeling throughly satisfied with the ending.
I did enjoy picking this book up after 100 pages and I did start to get emotionally invested with the characters and was intrigued to know who was behind these dares. It was a shame that they made Emma being involved so obvious from the beginning and also I felt the dares until Brandon died were not that scary. The whole tag line for the book was ‘truth or dare turns DEADLY’ well...yeah... I guess sort of? Like I understand Brandon died but that was it. No one thought it was murder so it didn’t create any fear. The game wasn’t actually scary or deadly people were more scared about their secrets coming out then being killed so it wasn’t that deadly. I understand the bomb at the end was horrific but it all happened at the end I wish it would be been more deadly throughout instead of just petty gossip.
I also wish it would of been someone else who was the main driving force. Jared was a nobody. We didn’t know about his story till right at the very end which is anticlimactic. It should of been a character knew even if it was someone minor it would or had more of an impact.
But I did enjoy this book in the long run even though it had some flaws I’m excited for Karen McManus’s new book ‘Cousins’ coming out this year because I have to admit I love love love her writing style!

I initially thought a second book in this story was superfluous but I'm fulling leaning in now. It's Pretty Little Liars meets Gossip Girl with a few cute romances, but none of the characters are terrible people, they just have (hysterically overstated, but still ultimately realistic) flaws. Very into the multi-narrative writing style at the moment. A less stakes-filled Liane Moriartey but make it high school. Catch me reading the third one tbh.
