After a mediocre second book (with a cliffhanger), I went on with the final part. This didn’t disappoint me, I liked the character and plot developments, although I’m not fully convinced of the ending’s likeliness.

But then again, this is YA fantasy, so I’ll be forgiving. :)

By far my favorite book of the Shadow and Bone Trilogy. I love the plot way more in this book than the others even if I still liked Nikolai and the Darkling more than Mal XD

Overall Thoughts:
⁕ Out of all the books in the Shadow and Bone series, this is by far the strongest. I loved seeing Bardugo's writing develop and strengthen with each novel.

⁕ THE ENDING, oh my gosh the ending. It made all the meh moments of the first book worth it.

⁕ I super appreciated that Bardugo gave us more time to know and love the minor characters that weren't as present in the earlier books, especially Zoya. Her inclusion of them makes me even more excited to start the King of Scars sequel series.

By far my favorite of the three. I think the pacing and character work was the most well done and I found her writing developed really well. I had often felt while reading the other two that she was teetering on the edge of making things dark but not doing so because they’re YA novels. I think Ruin & Rising had the perfect amount of darkness and graphic descriptions to it where it felt both hard hitting but also appropriate for its age group. All in all, a super solid fantasy novel.

I think this one might be my favorite of the trilogy. Even if the ending was a bit too convenient. The pacing felt better to me than the second one (which dragged quite a bit for me). The twists in the plot helped to keep the plot moving at a good pace and some of the side characters grew on me. Alina still isn't my favorite narrator, but I loved her little group of rebels. They were great.
