I’ve spent a fair amount of time with the Karamazov brothers now.  I understand why this novel is so well regarded, its written in a very straight forward but considered manner. It’s a long story with many smaller tales baked in. To me its strenght was the characterization. All the people involved are quite dramatic and their emotions are large. But they are not farsical, the grandness of feelings and expression is what make the characters stand out so. Dostojevskji has a way of writing the characters reflecting on their behavior or choices in a way which does not feel forced. It left me feeling like I was uncovering deeper layers if the people we follow. 

The plot is slow but not dull. The book felt quick to read even if its 800 pages. It was surprising to me that the murder occured so late in the story.

it took me 9 months to finish this.
What a ride, so i’ll keep this short. I freaking love it, the plot, the over explanations of everything and the insanely flawed characters. I loved all of it.
It still took me 9 months to read tho as it dragged sometimes a bit too much, but 4/5 is still awesome.
