This is the only book I've asked my girlfriend to read. It has been two years and she still has about 15 pages left to go. Anytime I ask her if she'll finish it, she starts to cry; she only need think of it superficially and it still pierces her so deeply. I think that sums up my emotions. Dog damn.

Very good read! It really makes you think about things, and humanity.
I won't quite look at my dogs the same way again.

Some beautiful reviews already written concerning the book’s features, series, setting, sensory and emotional quality. Mine is a bit more interpretive, peering beneath the hood (as I perceive it!) of a Trinidadian-born author. A work of Caribbean-Canadian speculative fiction, Alexis’ Fifteen Dogs is a thoughtful and gutturally honest read that I’m still thinking with as an allegory for the Caribbean post-colonial state. The original poems scattered throughout are inspired and a feat in themselves. The conditions of the wager, a key plot point in the book, is something I’m still sussing out for its potential problematics — my rating, 4.5 stars.
