What a gorgeous novel. The dynamic between humans and dogs and the way in which the author explores how a dog might experience the world with human intelligence is so creative and convincingly realistic. I found myself feeling for each and every character, including the bad dogs, and cried at the end, overcome with happiness that Prince returned to life before the change for one last moment before his soul moved onto the next dimension.

I thought this book was fun, probably really a 3.5 out of 5. You just have to go with the weird juxtaposition of dogs with human intelligence + greek gods + Toronto. I loved the Toronto part, that makes almost any book more fun knowing the landmarks the book is centred around.

Sorry (not sorry) book club, I’m stopping this one!!

I should have read the content warnings - too much dog death/murder/violence already and I’m only through chapter 1. I can’t take anymore of those visuals in my mind, thank you very much.

The philosophical premise is interesting, but the content is much too harsh (and fairly sexist IMHO) for me.
