A fantastic 10th doctor solo adventure - 4*

I haven't read a Doctor Who novel in a while and no, the 12 e-shorts don't count. I found this a gripping read with a solid villain (the daleks, of course!), fantastic plot and interesting characters created a great book by Baxendale.

The only thing I didn't like was the number of deaths. Yes, these were the daleks and they were ruthless but I just wasn't prepared for the number of deaths.

I know, I've read Game of Thrones and you didn't hear me complaining then but I think in this case, it is audience suitability. I don't know maybe I'm just rambling but this factor prevented me from giving it 5*.

A delightful, action-packed breeze of a read!

As a big Doctor Who and Dalek fan I was blown away with how much I loved this book. The characterisation was spot on and I loved the new added characters and sense of drama. This could easily have been a 2 part episode and I would have loved it!

This was probably my favorite Dr. Who novel. I loved how Baxendale was able to capture the Doctors giddy/boyish excitement for the unknown and his frustations. It was different to see the Doctor in such a situation where he's tortured and basically has no way of escape. I loved the references to the previous Doctors and the Fourth Doctor episode where he's there for the beginning of the Daleks on Skaro. But a really good read, didn't read it as fast as I would've liked but there were parts where I couldn't put it down.

I have to say. This is one of the darkest Dr. Who novels I've had the pleasure to read. The 10th Doctor is expertly portrayed here and his reluctance to even kill a Dalek is powerful. Particularly given what he must do later to help save humanity.

One thing has me curious about the Doctor though, he's vehemently against torturing the captured Dalek onboard the Wayfairer, yet at the conclusion of the novel leaves Dalek X to suffer a long long wait calling out when no one can hear. Effectively leaving him to suffer and die. The Doctor's moral compass is endlessly complex however and the Doctor despite their best efforts is not and never will be perfect. I believe this novel demonstrates that more than most.

4 stars. This was adventurous and action packed from beginning to end. It honestly felt like I was watching an actual episode of the show which is always fun. Follows the 10th Doctor and a battle against the Daleks. Great cast of side characters, well written, and very entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it.

This book is written fantastically and it actually feels like watching an episode of Doctor Who with extra detail. The plot is simple and complicated, well that’s how Doctor Who works. First, they Capture a Dalek and then the Daleks capture them. For those who are new to the Doctor Who world, Daleks are aliens and they're super bad. And as usual, the doctor is in the wrong place and of course the wrong time but ends up saving the day. The only thing that disappointed me was the number of characters dying. Usually not many people die because the Doctor always figures a way to save living things, but this book was a contradiction when it comes to the number of people surviving. Molto Bene, it is a great read and is recommended to all doctor who fans!

It’s decent for what it is. I needed something fun and short, after reading long novels..and this did the trick.
