For anyone who believes that words truly have magic and power, this book makes that magic as real as we hope it could be.
The characters are unwound over the course of the book, so their development feels so natural -- as if we are getting to know them rather than just reading about them; Fantasy is woven throughout the book, but always feels rooted enough in reality that it feels like it could be possible. The book-within-a-book is formatted between the chapters very clearly and is just as engaging as the main story.

I found this book hard to get into for the first 1/3, ended up quite enjoying the second 1/3 and found I was skimming to get to the end of the last 1/3. I can't put my finger on what it was that I didn't love, normally these types of books are my jam but I felt the beginning and ending were far too wordy with little action.

A beautifully piece of literature that toes the line of magical realism and full on fantasy with the confidence of a true dancer. January while not a relatable character has a way of making you feel so deeply through this story within a story the author has intended. Off-handed inclusion of a novel written from and by an entirely different character’s perspective is what truly ties the book together because you are almost tricked into believing that it’s just that, a story. Until the illusion is broken and you can no longer ignore the little hints.
