Again, how have I gone this long without reading Terry Pratchett? This was great! Tiffany is a very likable character who overcomes all of the obstacles that come her way, oh and the pictsies! And it's so clever!
Summary: A young witch-to-be named Tiffany teams up with the Wee Free Men, a clan of six-inch-high blue men, to rescue her baby brother and ward off a sinister invasion from Fairyland.

I really enjoyed this book. It really is an extension of the Lancre witches as the torch is really being passed down to a new generation of witches. This is a great book for kids because it's very much a fairy tale but it also has a creat complex storyline. Tiffany and her adventure is like a far less trippy journey than Alice's to Wonderland, thus making it easier for the reader to enjoy the visit (I am a huge Wonderland fan so this is definitely a compliment). This was a lot of fun to read as an adult and a cool addition to the Discworld canon.
I actually read an illustrated version of this book, which was great. I liked the story. I love "fairy tales" where the girl sticks up and thinks for herself and isn't a little princess waiting to be rescued. I have only read one other Discworld novel, but I am familiar with Pratchett and I'm looking forward to reading more about this character.
This was so delightful. It's a quick fun read- recommend if you want something a little lighter, but it definitely has that pratchett Magic. I bought a recent edition and having the author's biography be in past tense was so sad:(

This hilarious fantasy novel revolves around precocious Tiffany Aching, a nine-year-old witch from a sheepherding village. Her grandmother was a hag who had the respect of all for her ability to use her knowledge to help heal sheep (with turpentine and curse words) and correct sheepherding problems with some backwoods knowledge that often passed for magic. No amount of money could sway her for her influence, but a bit of tobacco could work. This sassy old woman of questionable magical talents is Tiffany’s personal heroine. Tiffany herself is a a frying-pan-wielding free-thinker who is curious, stubborn and demanding.
When two worlds collide, Tiffany’s own witchy talents are pulled into commission. Her annoying little brother goes missing, kidnapped by the Queen, and Tiffany enlists the assistance of the Wee Free Men to get him back. The titular Wee Free Men are red-haired, blue-tattooed elves who are normally quite a troublesome lot known for fighting, stealing and drinking. One of the leaders, Rob Somebody, apologizes to Tiffany for taking her sheep (“Well, it’s not like it was nailed down”) and ingratiates his tribe to her since she is an honored hag. Off go Tiffany and the Wee Free Men to the land where dreams – bad ones – come true. Great for fans of The Neverending Story.
