Excellent book about a young girl learning she is a witch. Plenty of British humor.

Do I really need to review this? My nearly-nine has started reading it now. So far, she likes it. She could do a lot worse than fix on Tiffany Aching as a role model...
Aww - I love Tiffany Aching, Terry Pratchett's YA heroine and star of three books, so far - this is the first. Tiffany is wonderful prickly, determined young girl, who goes up against the Queen of the Fairies to save her young brother (despite not liking him terribly much), with the aid of the Nac Mac Feegle - tiny blue drunken and belligerent litte men (the wee free men of the title). Tiffany's growing self-knowledge throughout the novel is fantastic, the wee free men are hilarious, and all ends well (plus we have a guest appearance at the end by my favourite Discworld witches - Mistress Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg.) I really want to make the acquaintance of a young girl in order to introduce her to this book - get 'em into the Pratchett fandom early, I say.
Oooh, also - this was an audiobook by Stephen Briggs, who did a fantastic job - I really liked his voices, I think he does a great job with the Discworld books.

The Wee Free Men is a wonderful beginning to the Tiffany Aching series. It has layers of complexity that makes it a delightful read for young and old. The Wee Free Men are such scamps, funny and ferocious! Tiffany's first sight/ second thoughts gives her an ageless quality; wise beyond her years.
