I totally recommment this book (be aware it's a long book and I risk to say that not all parts of this book might interest you) to everyone who wants an introduction to chineses culture and history, but don't forget that this book is written on the 1st person, so it can't be totally read as a history book.

It was a very interesting read. There was lots of shocking things that happened during Maos rule of China and it is crazy to think that some of the things that happened was only 50 years ago.
A crazy fact was Mao declaring war on grass as it was deemed too 'bourgeois' and so the whole of China started pulling grass out and grass pulling was also meted put as punishments.
