Short and sweet. Pete writes well and conveys his ideas clearly. it’s a bit sugarcoated but didn’t tip the line into being over done. He’s not saying anything groundbreaking but this is a strong reiteration of the fact that the low levels of trust we have in community and government is more of an anomaly than the rule Over the past couple hundred years. I think the most disappointing thing about the book is just how reasonable Pete is when he has a chance to write longform compared to being compressed into soundbites.

7/10. Pete Buttigieg, you've done it again. This commentary and evaluation of the current political climate is so well written. The ideas are intelligent and articulate, not to mention the immense research and evidence included. This book outlines the lack of trust that we see in America today, why that is a problem, and even goes so far to examine ways of how we can fix this. I appreciate that Pete looks ahead to the future, and seeks to fix problems (as opposed to just pointing out what's wrong). This book is a great read and leaves the reader well-informed with a lot of new ideas.
In a discussion of trust, Buttigieg has an honest conversation about the need to trust in oneself, in one's government, and in the capability to make a change.

3.5 rounded down to 3 stars, I did learn a lot about Buttigieg, but it left me wanting more about his policies and time in office.
This book essentially reads like a long form campaign platform and there's really nothing earth shattering in terms of ideas or concepts. That being said, Mayor Pete has a way of articulating ideas and frustrations in a really concise, productive, and compelling way and for that alone, it's worth a read/listen.
